Uses

Gefitinib is usedto treat lung cancer. It works by slowing or stopping the growthof cancer cells. Gefitinib blocks a certain protein (an enzyme calledtyrosine kinase).

How to use GefitinibTablet

Take gefitinib by mouth oncedaily, with or without food, or as directed.

Medications whichreduce or completely block stomach acid (e.g., proton pumpinhibitors/PPIs, H2 blockers, antacids) may decrease the absorption of gefitinib.This could decrease the effectiveness of gefitinib. Consult your doctoror pharmacist if you are taking any of these medications.

Diarrhea, rash, acne, nausea, vomiting,loss of appetite, nail problems, hair loss,red/sore mouth or throat, or unusual weakness may occur. Ifany of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctoror pharmacist right away.

Remember that yourdoctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judgedthat the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many peopleusing this medication do not have serious side effects.
