Anastrozole isused to treat breast cancer in women after menopause.Some breast cancers are made to grow faster by anatural hormone called estrogen. Anastrozole decreases theamount of estrogen the body makes and helps to slow or reverse thegrowth of these breast cancers.
How to use Anastrozole
Read the PatientInformation Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before youstart taking anastrozole and each time you get a refill. If you haveany questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Takethis medication by mouth with or without food as directedby your doctor, usually once a day.
Hotflashes, headache, troublesleeping, dizziness, stomach upset, nausea/vomiting, constipation, diarrhea,loss of appetite, weight gain, tiredness/weakness,increased coughing, or sore throat may occur. If any of theseeffects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacistpromptly.
Remember that yourdoctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judgedthat the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many peopleusing this medication do not have serious side effects.
Beforetaking anastrozole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you areallergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product maycontain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or otherproblems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before usingthis medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history,especially of: heart disease (such as history of heartattack), bone loss (osteoporosis), liver disease, highblood pressure, blood clots.
